As far as wet food goes, we’ve been using fancy feast for two years and the cats love it, but I never expected what I found inside the box. I went to feed my cat and noticed a strong smell coming from my brand new box of wet food. I opened the cupboard and it was infested with maggots. The maggots got outside of the cupboard and travelled all night so I found them all over my kitchen. I have since spent hours cleaning. I opened the wet food box and found the source. It was covered in maggots inside and smelt horrendous. I have to vacuum out my cupboard, clean the whole kitchen floor, put vinegar spray down and mop, spray inside the cupboard and clean all my kitchen supplies inside that cupboard, then put down a pesticide down, then sprinkle salt to be left for a month for when possible eggs in cracks and crevices hatch.
This is a big job, I am shocked that this was not noticed and wish I would’ve checked the box before putting it away the night before because the whole box was loaded with them. I am not sure what occurred, if it was a wet food container that opened up, or a dead rodent in the box, as I tried to see what was in there but the maggots were jumping as I pulled out the tins and I wanted to contain the mess as much as possible. We will be switching to another company.
