One of my fave features of the online guidebook has always been the Google maps link for locations, but for some reason they all don't work and take you to a location in the middle of the Pacific Ocean instead. Hope LP offices this in future editions of the guide
While I don’t consider myself a resort-hopper, I certainly am not one to stay in hostels or “rough it” in cabins when I’m on vacation. That is why I love this guidebook so much, the information in it is relevant to every style of traveler out there!
I had never bought a Lonley Planet guide book before, but needed something to help plan my upcoming trip to Thailand. This book was written by Westerners who have lived in Thailand for years, and they share everything you need to know before visiting Bangkok.
All information is shared in an engageing but extremely detailed way. This isn’t just a list of temples and restaurants to go see, it’s a true guide to every level of experience you could want to have in Bangkok. They break down everything from the top three dive bars in Sukhumvit to the most obscure but fascinating museums the city has to offer. Additionally, if a destination does not have an English sign, they describe exactly what the building will look like, which door to enter through, etc. This really is a top tier guide book, and a must-have if visiting Bangkok.
As usual, Lonely Planet delivers a broad array of relevant information in a compact book. Packed with photos, maps and helpful tips, I found this edition incredibly useful for my recent trip to Bangkok. As a first time visitor, information regarding public transport, history about local tourist attractions and general travel logistics all contributed to a successful experience. In a digital world, I was surprised just how much I used the paper maps. Plus, one of my hotel stops was listed as recommendation, as by far the best of many hotels we utilized during our two week stay in Thailand.
This book was really helpful in prepping for my trip. We only had a few days and wanted to get the most out of our free time. I liked the way it was written and that it addressed both what locals do and what tourists do.
Thorough and easy to read, regarding all elements of travel to Bangkok - hotels, restaurants, night clubs, neighborhoods, historic sites, adventures. It is incredibly handy and well organized. I'll be using it on my first trip to Thailand.
The city guide includes many useful tips, photos and maps and it's very helpful in a chaotic city like Bangkok! It is very well-written and you can easily read it during the flight from Europe to Bangkok. I highly recommend it!
