Lee Neville
5.0 out of 5 starsWow, really good
Reviewed in Canada on February 27, 2019
I am a Life Coach so my entire world is basically coaching habits. Instilling new habits and adjusting the old ones. I am constantly looking for anything that could potentially help my clients, and myself. Sometimes its a word, or a phrase, or an idea. In this case its most of the book. Because how the author uses plain talk, real world examples and story telling it really resonated with me. For some experts I suppose there might not be too much new here, but, the author does provide several examples of APPLICATION of the ideas. Its easy to say, "Yeah I know that already" quite another to actually go do what you know. We all know we should eat healthier, work out more, get better sleep, etc. But do we? If we do, do we do it consistently, successfully? This is where there is real horse power in this book. Lots of take aways for me and my clients. Not sure how I have gone this long without knowing about James Clear. Loved this book, super easy read, can't recommend it enough.

2.0 out of 5 starsSolid Skimmer
Reviewed in Canada on August 1, 2020
This is a solid skimmer. Just another supposed groundbreaking self-help book from some guy who has been declared an expert by repeating well known ideas to a corporate audience and can effectively write for the masses at a sixth grade level. This book is a pseudo-intellectual approach to the well known. These are all ideas that I have heard expressed better elsewhere and there isn't a single unique idea in the book. It's a book by a guy with a silver tongue, mediocre research skills, and who found a publisher with a good copy editor. It wouldn't be so cringey to read if he didn't refer to concepts as "Laws" which they are not, and proper noun "Principles" which is also barely true. Talk about self aggrandizing.

There is a lot of repetition here as well. This whole book could have been written in 75 pages.

There's nothing wrong with buying this book if you think it will help but I recommend reading the first couple of chapters and then reading chapter summaries to determine if you already know the content. Then you can dive in on anything that is new to you. I spent about an hour going cover to cover. See if you can get it used or at the Library or something. It's not worth spending more than a few bucks on.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing

I usually allow Amazon's reviews to influence my purchases and they usually are spot on. Not this time. I was excited to read this based on all the reviews, but I wasn't impressed. Just my opinion, but this a collection of common sense. I must have said "really, people don't do/know this already???" 100 times. The anecdotes seemed lazy and I just thought it was super boring. I'm sure it could be useful for a lazy teenager but yeah, a whole lot of common sense.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Repetitive
Reviewed in Canada on September 20, 2021

This book is good for the first bit, but then you'll realize that this repeats itself over again, a lot of fluff. Simple to read and feel like this self help book is just like every other self help book out there giving out ideas and methods that are already known.

It is definitely helpful for you if this is the very first self help book you've ever read. It will be informative and provide insight. Just be mindful that it basically repeats itself afterwards, unsure if it is to drill it into the mind or just needed to fill pages.

2.0 out of 5 stars Author is great, print is rubbish.

The print is rubish. Several pages missing, some pages were still stuck together and got unstuck as I carefully turned them. Basically I miss content and I will never know what I missed! I cannot believe such a faulty quality control!

But for the parts I could read the book idea is great! The author gives us actionable insights and the table in the end of the chapters get filled-in progressively, which helps to learn as we read.

Je suis très déçue de la façon dont mon livre a été envoyé. Lorsque j'ai ouvert la boîte, il était comme sur la première photo. Je prends beaucoup soin de mes choses et c'est très dommage qu'un article neuf arrive déjà endommagé.

The media could not be loaded.
It started off well until I realized that there are many missing pages. As in, at least 33 pages.

Here is the summary of this book - "Pretend to be the person you want to be until you become that person". It was a great book; however, I stopped half way through, because it was so repetitive.

The book I received is very poor quality. Several pages are missing (blank) and others seem to be on the verge of falling out.
