If you thought you had read the best zombie apocalypse story ever in the story written up to now, be prepared to have your mind blown away. I took the morning off work so I could read this as soon as it dropped. There was no way to stop reading. Take 5 stars and multiply by 100. I wrote a review for Dealer of Hope and said I missed badass Adrian Ring and that I was not feeling his no mohawk, diplomatic new attitude. Things start off well with the NVC meeting but at some point things go horribly wrong and Mohawk vengeance is my name Adrian Ring shows who is boss of the Apocalypse. My next request in my review asked for a Gabriel 2.0. Adrian needed some serious special ops backup. Mission accomplished. Do not want to spoil that crazy cool plot twist. In the review I said I really want to know about Adrians other brother. Mission Accomplished. I asked about the other trinities... Mission Accomplished. Literally can not wait for the next book. All I will say is Adrian is needed to save Europe and we are off on another great zombie apocalypse story. I will end this review with the warning to have some Kleenex ready. The Mohawk is back for a reason. Congratulations Chris. I had already opined you had the best ZA story ever written. This one surpasses every expectation any fan could ever have and I do not have the words to express by gratitude for you writing my favorite literary character ever.
I love the Adrian's Undead Diary series. The latest addition to the series, The Last Resort: Adrian's March Part Two, is no different. The book has all the wonderful Adrian, Becky, Hall, Kevin and Michelle readers love plus other new characters. Adrian is Adrian, still questioning if he is a good person or not, and reacting strongly when his loved ones are threatened. The action is non-stop and well written. I have never held a gun (have no desire to) but Chris Philbrook writes his action scenes so well that even someone like me can follow what is happening.
If you are already an Adrian fan, pick up this exciting new addition. I believe the audio is expected by the end of the year. If you have not read The Adrian's Undead Diary series, check it out. It is one of those series that you read multiple times because it is a world that you want to visit again and again.
I really enjoyed this book. Read it in paper in first, then had the long wait for Mr. Foster to give Adrian his voice back. James Foster did not disappoint. Adrian is officially back, and his attitude is reminiscent of the whole Westfield incident from the original series. I was extremely surprised by those lost in this book. I can't believe how different things will be going forward. I am really looking forward to the conclusion of this post Cassie trilogy. I hope Chris has a plan for another trilogy after these. I dread the day the AUD/ALPA universe reaches it's conclusion. If you are new to the series, do yourself a favor and pick-up Dark Recollections first. In my opinion this is not a stand alone book/trilogy, you need the foundation of the original series so you can become emotionally attached to the cast.
I've enjoyed every book in this series but this one affected me more than most. Firstly, I'd like to say that I really enjoyed learning more about the adventures of Steve at the onset of the apocalypse. I think he's an interesting character, and I'd like to see more of his experiences in the future. Next I have to say it was a real treat to see more Adrian's badass brother! Then we get to the main story line. We see Adrian going from being kind of a soft touch diplomat to the old ass kicker we all know and love. I won't go into detail about why this happens. I'm going to be healing for a long time over this. I may never fully recover! Finally, as if the points I mentioned aren't enough, just wait until you see where the story is going!
Of course I'm going to follow Adrian Ring! Chris Philbrook's latest chapter in the Adrian's Undead Diary series is outstanding. This series is getting better every book. If you haven't kept up with Adrian since Book Eight: Cassie, what are you waiting for. Just because that came to a close doesn't mean the story ends. Emotionally, this was one of the hardest AUD I've read but it was also impossible to put down. I finished it in one sitting and I'm already to read the next one. Write faster Chris!
The NVA has struck, lives have been lost and Adrian is on the war path. He's not stopping until everyone he loves is safe. This book blew me away and I laughed and cried and we lost some really good friends in this book, I'm heartbroken at the losses. The ending was OMG and now I have to wait very impatiently for the next book. Wish I could give this more than 5 stars it definitely deserves it. If you're into apocalyptic stories then definitely read this series.
