You've never seen a movie like this

(I have not read the books yet.)
I got my first copy at discount at HMV because I was spending a gift card. I thought it was a post Superbad slump Michael Cera movie. The trailer was not good. Had to return because the DVD was not working. It sat on my shelf for a while. Eventually heard Beck and Godrich were involved in the soundtrack. Then it was time for...
The awesome 8bit Universal studio music. This spoke to me.
The first scene and the generic are done in 5 minutes and 30 seconds. I then paused and rewatched. You're in the plot and know and love these characters in seconds.
It a gem. The comic book must be pretty solid, because this scenario is truly great. I am sure some of the subplots are more detailed in the books, but I the screenplay is tight and to the point. It hits every spot it aims for; and this movie is fast and witty. If you know the source material, no need to spoil anything about the plot, if you don't know anything about it, see it with no frame of reference other than "it's a great movie".
On the screen, it's an homage to vintage video-games. The editing, both visual and audio, is filled with clever transitions, visual clues, Easter eggs , smooth use of stylized special FX and of course one of the coolest soundtrack, both the new songs and old.
Impossible to not talk about the casting, with a few now star superheroes in memorable roles. Everyone involved delivers a knock-out performance. Brie Larson, it turn out, could have be a rock star.
So it's about an immature young adult in a band who meets the girl of his dreams. He has to fight for her and grow up. Not original when you put it that way. It involves fight scenes? That sounds lame cheesy.
But it works. It's perfect. You've never seen a movie like this.
The pace is so fast it is impossible to absorb all the details, and it is a perfectly fine if you watch it only once. But...
I bet you will rewatch this one a few times. It's a lot of fun and rich enough to keep you interested after you've seem it quite a few times, because, again, you've never seen a movie like this before.
Forget about "this is one of the greatest comic book adaptation ever", this is one of the greatest movie ever. Period.
