Even though Amazon didn't let on, I found that these fit my 2003 Ford Explorer Sport 2door, thanks to a reviewer. I'm glad I didn't buy the part recommended by Amazon. I'm getting tired of their sneaky ways of getting consumers to waste their money.
Purchased these to replace the original hinges on a 2000 Ford Explorer. Installation was quick and easy. These hinges seem to be of better quality than the OEM parts. The bolt stud which connects into the top portion of the hinge was the issue with the original part. This new hinge has a great adjustment on the this stud.
Fit perfectly on my Ford explorer Sport 2002! Just another part that no matter what, you will have to replace at some point. The glass is heavy and can be awkward and it will break if it's dropped so I devised a way to get them on. Remove ONE and replace it only tightening the glass side. Using blue painters tape, securing the glass as much as needed. Open hatch carefully and attach other side to body. Repeat for the other side. It is very recommended to replace your shocks witch are found on Amazon for a fraction of the price and they work amazing as well!
These are made very well. They include all the hardware nuts, spacers and foam bushings to complete the build. Heavier build than the OEM hinges. But the new hinges will not fit through the OEM sized openings in the hatch housing. You will need to drill them out to 1/4" for them to fit. I did not know this prior to starting but had all the tools and skills required to do so. My first clue was when the new retaining nuts that hold the hinges to the hatch were 11mm in size not 10mm like the OEM. Pulled the first one out went to insert the Dorman replacement and the stud would not pass through. Used a step bit to make the holes 1/4" then it worked perfect. I would 5 star it if they would have mentioned it needed to be stepped out.
Didn’t realize these come in pairs so now I have an extra pair .... no worries. Seem to be better than the factory parts where the stud pulls out with the slightest torque.
When installing, I removed both support struts to avoid fighting the lift pressure, however the glass is heavy without support. Installation of the hinges is easy peasy at this point. Needed a couple new círclips to reinstall the struts.
I was able to install the hinges fairly easily with only on of the holes needing to be drilled out slightly. The new hinge has a little bit larger bolt to secure it to the door. Looks like the originals and secures my glass door on my older 1998 Explorer very well. Thank you for having this available. The old hinges gave way three days ago when I was working with the local youth and I was anxious to get it repaired before the glass door got broken.
