5.0 out of 5 stars Product improved our septic field's effectiveness.

I've used various products. THIS is the the best product of all. It's a "shock" for your septic field (as advertised). And now ours is much improved and taking on all the liquid waste it's suppose to. Our field was supposedly "overloaded" for the first time in 8 years. Liquid waste was backing up into the tank and our house lines. Added entire gallon of Green Pig to part of septic tank closest to port that goes directly to the field. No water use for 8-10 hours. Then go about our normal life. The product expanded in the tank and then was the first liquid to go into the field once more waste liquid was added from the house. Problems we were having have vanished. Field now operating as it should.

5.0 out of 5 stars fixed my system

My septic system was never pumped for 30 years, then water was turned off for a year as the house was remodeled. When water was back on, the system started backing up into the house. Had a septic inspection that said tank was full with a hardened lump of sewage. I used one gallon of emergency treatment over a week, putting in at night and not running water. The grass along the leach field lines turned yellow, but came back green. So I think the product cleared my tank and the leach field. THe field is no longer wet and no backups for 5 months. I think this product broke up a 30 year mass of hardened sewage, but haven't had it re-inspected yet to check. I did receive the year supply of packets and I'm using these every two months. I have a functioning septic system and leach field because of this product. I'd highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was desperate!

Okay I was desperate. I have a septic tank and no hope of a sewer system, as I live in a rural area. Septic tank was put in, 1976. I encountered real problems about 7 years ago. The septic tank people said I had no bacteria, as it was filled to the brim with water. They replaced the lids with the new pressure release ones and added a machine that pumps air into the tank, and added bacteria to it. That cost 5,000 dollars and others have told me that was very reasonable. Better than 15,000 dollars (at that time) to replace the leach line, tearing down the fence, and destroying my yard. It worked great! 4 years later I had it pumped. Then I needed it pumped again, this year. It was once again over flowing with liquid. But I thought pumping it would take care of it. Within a week the odor started. Called roto rooter and they took off the lids, and it was well above the line. It was nearly to the top of the lid. They told me everything I needed to do and best case scenario was was pumping again for 600 dollars, and not understanding everything they said could go wrong with each step, it could cost 5,000 or more to fix. But then dependent upon a new leach line that would cost a horrible amount of money. I was DESPERATE ! I read about additives and decided to order this product. That was in early April. I immediately reduced water usage substantially. Called green pig, they advised me to use a cup of the liquid product every three days. After about three applications to use the packet. We did. We continued to use the liquid every three days and a couple weeks later added another packet. Since then we have kept up with the liquid. We just started our second gallon. A little over a week ago the smell has completely gone away. Still nervous we are keeping to the protocol they suggested. We will add another packet probably with in a week. When there is no smell that means the water is not above an acceptable level. The pressure lids release the pressure from the water resulting in the escape of the odor. (You can tell I am a novice at this, I am sure). Also my washing machine releases the water into the yard not the tank. I will continue the application but I am ELATED at the results so far. I consider this an excellent product. But with my fingers still crossed ( and a prayer or two) I am not going to deviate from this schedule for awhile. I may start using my dishwasher again but not quite yet. So far I am very impressed with the results. I give green pig a big atta boy, the price is very reasonable when you compare with the alternative methods of repair. (By thousands). So far they have saved me a ton of money! By the way I have talked to them twice and I think it was the same gentleman. Very nice and very available.

Bought this stuff for "emergency" use, and glad I did. The sewer line under our guest cabin is only slightly angled all the way underground to the basement of our home next store where it joins our sewer pipe, so is relatively susceptible to clogging.

This last clog was so bad that using a plunger in the commode actually forced sewage up through the shower drain, and vice-versa. I next turned to a 25-ft metal sewer "snake," but fully extended it also failed to open the line. As a last resort before an expensive plumber visit, I turned to this emergency enzyme formula, which was now well over a year old. Poured about a quart into the commode and 1/2 quart in the shower drain and left it overnight. The next morning the bowl and shower drains were clear and the sewer line open.

This product may not work on all clogs, but it did on ours. Just make sure you follow the directions and be patient. Remember it's designed to dissolve organic material, and not diapers or those "flushable" wipes (that really aren't designed for flushing), or plastic toys, etc.

Of course an alternative is the highly caustic or acidic "Liquid Plumber" type liquids, which may or may not work, and are also designed to dissolve organic matter. However, unlike the natural bacterial enzyme formulas like this Green Pig product, you cannot use them in commodes. The heated chemical reaction can melt the wax seals of commodes, or possibly crack the porcelain, as well as presenting a safety issue. Although the manufacturers claim they're "safe for septic systems," anything that's highly caustic or acidic going into the septic tank will kill bacteria, including the ones there designed to break down solids.

In the beginning when I started to use this Green Pig Septic Tank Cleaner I was a bit skeptical. I started using it as directed by throwing a few ounces down the toilet and flushing. After a month... no result... my yard was still ponding with water in the leach field. I then flushed the rest of the gallon down the toilet in one go. Still no result. I waited a few weeks for the gallon of cleaner to do its thing. Well the water started drying up a bit but kept coming back... I changed tactics and used a packet of the concentrated formula. I put it in a bucket of water and throw the mixture directly into the septic tank closest to the leach field where I believed there was a closed. As best I could I tried to use less water in the house so as not to "disturb" the bacteria as they "eat" the filth in the septic tank. After a days of this, thankfully I had hot sun as well, the water cleared up in my yard. It's been a few weeks now and still no water in the yard. My yard smells fresh again. I will definitely purchase again. My advice is to pour the bacteria mixture closest to where your issue is. This way they can get to and deal with your clog faster. Also its best to avoid bleaches and other chemicals that can kill the bacteria.

5.0 out of 5 stars SAVED US $6,000.00

One of our septic systems backed up at our bed and breakfast putting us temporarily out of business. A septic company responded, pumped our tanks, partially filled them with a hose and pumped water to the drain field. The water seeped up to the surface of the ground. According to the septic company we needed a drain field repair at a cost of $6,000.00. I did some research and discovered the great reviews for Green Pig Emergency Formula, ordered two gallons and poured 5 quarts directly into the drain field header pipe and let it work for 48 hours. When I manually activated the pump there was no seepage on the surface of the ground and the drain field has been working perfectly for three months. I will continue using Green Pig Septic Tank Treatment as directed to keep our septic systems functioning property. This product is worth it's weight in gold, $6,000.00 worth of gold!

I really wanted the Treatment packets and the Liquid Emergency Formula was the bonus. Not happy the Enzyme packets were not delivered as advertised.
However, I just contacted Brian at GreenPig Customer Service Dept via the Amazon return portal and they responded to my email right away. Like 10 minutes. I gave them my address and they said they would ship that out right away (I'll edit this post if it doesn't arrive quickly) and Brian was very apologetic on behalf of GreenPig and said that they have no control how the Amazon Warehouse puts their products out for shipping. Seems like Amazon is having some growing pains as I have had a bunch of issues with shipping lately after many years with no issues at all. I am happy GreenPig is taking care of it as this is a great product and I was prepared to take my business elsewhere. Good job Brian. I hope this helps the other people not getting their packets.

We had hammered our septic system for years using a garbage disposal on not getting it pump as often as we should. After having the system pumped the company told me that our field was compromised since waste was coming back down into the tank from it after it was pumped. After having the system pumped I removed the garbage disposal and started to use Green Pig packets monthly. Two years later I had it pumped and although waste was still coming back from the field, it was better and never backed up into the house. I just had it pumped the other day and there was no waste coming back and the levels in the system were perfect. It took about three years of using the pig monthly, but it reversed the damage and saved us about $22k on a new system (that was the quote). We continue to use Green Pig packets monthly and the emergency yearly (just as a bonus). We also get it pumped yearly but probably do not need to at this point. Thank you Green Pig for a great product!
