Mr. Lucas goes through a methodical, straightforward analysis of what it takes to achieve out-sized returns as a taxable investor. Too many commentators target non-tax paying entities, because, surprise , surprise, they represent the vast majority of clients for banks and brokerage firms. The individual investor, who is saddled with significant tax burdens, gets short shrift. Not true in this case. Mr. Lucas also presents his advice in such as way as to be easily understood by anyone involved in the markets. In particular, however, I would commend this book to those in the earlier stages of wealth creation, as it provides a road map that can significantly improve one's prospects for success.
Too many times an investor will fall prey to reaping short-term pretax profits at the expense of real profits net of taxes over the long haul. The advice Stuart Lucas provides in maximizing upside potential while limiting downside risk is germane in any economic environment, but especially in the uncharted waters we are experiencing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. His advice also is worth heeding as one considers planning for inheritance transfer (financial and otherwise). On balance, his book is an engaging, eye-opening and useful read.
I got this for my husband, and he says as a lawyer and active investor, Stuart’s book is invaluable. The book contains both practical tax tips and long term investment strategies that can be implemented by investors at any level. Highly recommend!
