5.0 out of 5 stars Value is defined by outcomes not output

This book puts OUTCOMES not output as the definition of success. To do this, we need the full engagement and collaboration of all teams to ensure continuous learning and feedback. When technology and solution developers REALLY discover and understand with the business what success is will be when success is achievable. Until then it's just lots of wasted effort and frustration with minimal chance to create lasting value. Having worked in managed care for 35+ years I have seen lots of effort put into delivering solutions, but also lots of waste as the arduous work resulted in no business value. It's time to change, and this book supplies comprehensive and solid guidance on ways to do that. Each context is different and so each this must be used appropriately given what challenges you have and where people realize that things can and should be better.

A must read for anyone who believes that focusing on agility is more important than doing Agile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite simply a must read...

Most lean-agile practitioners will have a go to set of books they call upon. These books will have no doubt been influential not only in their own journey, but also be a regular recommendation they make to others going through a similar learning and/or upskilling experience. Books that come to mind in this category are publications such as The Phoenix Project, Coaching Agile Teams, Lean Startup and Accelerate. What has been lacking (certainly in this readers opinion), is a book that really tackles how you do this at scale across any type of organisation, how to do it in a way that is pragmatic not dogmatic. Something that is principle based and is supported by real empirical evidence of the author(s) own journey. Thankfully, we don't have to look anymore, as this is it. This is the book you're looking for. Easy to read for both experienced practitioners and newcomers to modern ways of working, Jon, Miles, Zsolt and Simon have succeeded in putting together a collection of solid patterns and anti-patterns for anyone looking to embrace new ways of working. This will not try to convert you into a single framework/method or present Agile/Lean/DevOps as any form of silver bullet - it will respect you and your context, your complex adaptive system of an organisation, and guide you on how you can get to the things that matter for any organisation, that is #BVSSH - Better Value Sooner Safer Happier.

This is the most comprehensive and up to date source of information on organizational transformation that I've come across and I've read almost all them. What makes this book stand out - focused not on specific buzz works but on actual outcomes and delivery of value. Each section contains examples of what works and what doesn't work. This is the book you want your leadership to read when they decide they need to be "more agile". This might show them that being Agile isn't the goal at all - it's the benefits that come from embracing the principles that matter. If you aren't looking at the outcomes, more than likely all you'll end up just changing is the names of your meetings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant guide to modern business agility

It’s been a great relief to find a guide to everything I’ve come across in my own work in local government ICT. The patterns and anti patterns resonate very deeply. There has been much learning over the years, painful learning, that could have been short cut with the help of Sooner Safer Happier. And much learning for the future that will come quicker and hopefully much less painfully.

I mention or reference BVSSH to my team and colleagues at least daily and have given the book 4 times as a gift.

Everyone involved in shaping how an organisation works and thinks should have a copy of Sooner Safer Happier next to their desks.

This book could be the most valuable of all in a crowded space. I have worked in this area for many years and consider my self as very experienced but still found so much value investing my time reading this work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bvssh

The book helped me put together the framework of better value sooner safer happier. It (indirectly) helped me piece together years of learning about Lean, TOC, agile, gamification, flow into just BVSSH.

Why else would i want to have all those knowlege? I just wanted to create BETTER VALUE, SOONER, SAFER, AND HAPPIER.

It's a simple book. Nothing is new, but looking at existing knowlege and piecing together as a Why. I now communicate with bvssh as my primary "why" question.
