I'm a fan of the series, but this volume was a good bit slower than the others. For an unnecessary percentage of the story, John and Katie are driving cross-country. The road descended and curved to the left. I drove really fast. We stopped for gas and shot some zombies. The road climbed and curved to the right. I drove really fast. We stopped for gas and shot some zombies. On and on, for the majority of the book. Okay - we get it. It started to feel like one of those scenes from a bad horror movie where the victim is running down the middle of the street with a car barreling down the road behind them. The camera angle changes again and again, but somehow the speeding car never manages to catch the running victim. It just never seems to get there. That's how I'd describe this installment of the V Plague series - it just never seems to get there. Hoping Patton turns up the heat and ends the series with a flourish of brilliance in the next installment.
How many off you fans have noticed that they tell you how many pages in the story, but don't start till page 10 , page 20, and skip 1.2.4, pages at a time wow can someone explane this to me? Dirk Patton is a great writer, but like so many others he starts to draaaggg the story line . And repeat the rescues for the same person! And I can see only one reason make more money and more books in a series ..
This is with out a doubt the best series in this genre. Love John, Dog and Rachael, still wish Katie had died. The only mistake the author made was not having John finding Katie sooner. I was all for John and Katie until I wasn't, until Rachel became too important. I really really dislike Katie and that's the only reason I don't give five stars.
I really enjoyed the whole series - but I just can't do any more. If John gets blind-sided one more time without his "Dog" or girls helping him out- well, I'd just rather not know. Really good series - but I'm feeling a bit 'rooked' - only because I've spent about $24.00 and still haven't been informed about how the good old USA is gonna fight back against all odds - Like I said, I'm done.
I like this series. I know it's not high art, but it's a good, entertaining read and I'm going to be sad when I'm finished. (It's my train reading.) I hope Patton keeps writing around this world. I like the characters and the scenario.
