Chasing Us (The Dark Love Series – Book 2) – 4.5 Stars
Chasing Us is where we pick up with Charlie and Lex. Pretty much where book one ended, only now I can tell you that Charlie had left the Hampton’s and Lex because of a tabloid story that broke overnight about Lex and Victoria being in a relationship and this was the morning after they got “married”. It seems we have ended up back where it began, only this time it is Charlie that has left and she has left leaving a group of people wondering how is she coping with this. Charlie however has her safe mechanism, Ignore, leave and close herself down, as well as ordering security not to let Lex in the building. Probably not the best way to deal, but if it works for her; then go with what works.
Charlie does have some soul searching to do. Is she going to end it with Lex? Is she going to calm down over time and give him a chance to explain? To add to all of this she finally has come to terms with how she feels about Julian. So, she feels she needs to clean up at least that part of her life.
I don’t like to give away a lot if I can help it in reviews, but I’m going to give you a hint, Charlie eventually comes clean with Lex about everything that happened to her when she moved to Connecticut and also tells him she gave Julian back his ring.
Yes, there is a lot I’m not covering in this review, but when you read book two you will see there have been changes in the lives of Charlie and Lex. They have faced some normal issues like getting use to not being the only person in charge, looking for a new place to live, a trip to see Charlie’s father as well as new additions and a move that affects all the characters in this book. There is love, laughter, and a couple who continues to have a relationship fraught with sexual tension and there is a profound loss that might just end a marriage.
I have to say, I’m still not the biggest Lex fan, but I have to give Charlie huge kudos for the growth I have seen in her over the year this book covers. There is hope to be had but both of the characters involved have to be present and working towards a positive end for it to work. Here is hoping everyone involved will be moving on with Book 3 in Kat Masen’s Dark Love Series.
I received an advance reader copy for my honest feeling and opinions in this review.
Loved both books so much. Loved the genre, ie love triangle. Chemistry is off the charts hot. The story line is in keeping with real life heart aches and emotional decisions. New author for me and I am going to continue with the next book in line. Stayed up late to finish this one. Really like this author.
Second part of Charlie's and lex story. Definitely a page turner but Charlie is the most self absorbed person who doesn't care about anyone's feelings but her own. Lex is a alcoholic who makes poor decisions whilst under the influence. The fallout from their rollercoaster love story is they hurt and drag people along for ride. Charlie's method of coping was just toxic. For a smart lawyer she was reduced to a petulant child. Why either man wanted to be with someone who lies and cheats is beyond me. That being said I really enjoyed the story, characters and overall train wreck of lex and Charlie's drama. I felt sorry for Batman and lex sister, neither one deserved the hand that was dealt. It's well written with hilarious sub plots from the admin team who work at the law firm.
What an absolute rollercoaster of emotions this book is. Beautifully written, making me laugh, sob, fury! It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book that’s managed to hook my emotions in totally. It’s the second book in the series and not to be missed. Even tho there is a hea, I still have hatred for the H. I didn’t manage to forgive him unfortunately, hence why I can only give it 4 stars. No matter what he touched her bare clit and that is full on cheating in my book and I just couldn’t forgive it, Charlie is a bigger person than me. Needed a trigger warning for that.
Let me tell you guys something, don’t go into this book thinking your ready for it. This isn’t your average love story. I was not expecting for this story to take me on ride. Frontwards backwards upside down, looped around. I seriously underestimated this story and Now that I’ve completed Lex and Charlie’s story ( Books 1 & 2 ) I’m a complete mess covered in snot and tears. I have never in my life read a book that was as emotionally charged as this one, but Damnnn! I’m gonna miss this couple This was a hard one to read, As i have mentioned emotions are running high the entire time. It makes you edgy and anxious and as the story unfolds it become a revolving door of First, Second, Third, and Fourth chances and how many times it must take to get things right, despite being soulmates and all the baggage of their past that keeps getting in their way of their happily ever after. As i sit here and think about this story it still continues to break me, as soul crushing and heartbreaking as it was, its was equally breathtaking and tragically beautiful. I love everything that was portrayed through these first 2 books. First Loves, Traumatic Pasts, Fighting and Make Up, Second Chances, Learning how to persevere, Trust, and Forgive. Learning that no all relationships are perfect and they do require work but knowing you are a team and can make it through anything together. I appreciate Kat giving us a whole other side to relationships, that they’re not all sweet and innocent. Theirs an ugly side to it as well and its one that is not talked about or portrayed in books. As much as this was hot dumpster fire mess I appreciated it all. It was refreshing. The book really took me by surprise and it’s become one I will never forget. This captivating story is one everyone should check out. I can’t wait to jump into book 3
Okay, I found Charlie very hypocritical and just plain turnoff. The way she treated Julian and kept cheating on him and kept holding on to him as a safety net was just wrong. I was like, "walk away Lex" she's being a player and has double standard. How can she be jealous when she is still engage. She annoyed me. Glad she had better sense in the end but she still did a number on Julian and didn't even own it, she sucks. Although, sex scene is hot.
This writers style annoyed me bc I feel like she needed material an dragged this book out for no reason also chapter after chapter of each of their POV for the same event WHYYYYY?!? Killing Elijah just so Julian could have a book huge mistake IMO bc you’ve forever ruined the friendship dynamics! You could of till gotten 3 additional book you had Kate, Emma and Eric you could of still written about. I’d love to know what happens with everyone but a Google search will give me answers bc I just can’t read anything else by this writer sorry not sorry 🤷♀️
