4.0 out of 5 starsA lovely, well written, easy summer read

The story was well crafted and the characters well rounded. It was a taste of Tuscany, its food, the wines and great descriptions of a fairy tale estate. The story was simple and an easy read but I left the last page satisfied.

In 2017, Fiona Bell receives a transatlantic phone call from Italy informing her that Anton Clark, her father had passed away. Trouble was, the only father Fiona ever knew was lying dying in his home in the U.S.A. But ten year previous to this phone call, Fiona's Mom, Lillian had told her a deep dark secret, that Freddie Bell was not her biological father, and then sworn her to secrecy to never revel the truth to her "dad". Then Lillian died leaving her permanently handicapped husband Freddie to Fiona's care. So Fiona boards an airplane for Tuscany and discovers she has inherited a winery worth millions, and meets her half sister and brother who are as surprised to find out about Fiona as she is about them.
This is a sweetly written book, juggling chapters between Fiona in 2017 and her mother and Freddie, in 1986. And learning about the father she never knew, Anton Clark, and why she was born. Parts of this book, I really loved. And I enjoyed learning more about wine, how it's made, and the winery itself. Beware, this book will make you want to travel to Tuscany and make you thirsty for Italian wine.

Loved the story.about a good daughter who unexpectedly inherits. Loved the description of the vineyard and Tuscany, enjoyed the characters.....mostly. What I found rather disconcerting is this: this American girl in Italy with NO Italian is speaking to Italians from all walk s of life. Nice, right? And these same people speak back to her in perfect, American idiomatic English! I grew up in a town with a huge Italian population, so I know this book was taking poetic licence waaay too far. Other than that, enjoyed the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story of love and family

When the lawyers of Fiona's birth father contacted her to inform her of his death and the fact that she was included in his will, she embarked on a journey to Tuscany that would have a huge impact on her life. Just before her mother died, she shared the fact with Fiona that the father who raised her was not her birth father. However Fiona was left with a negative image of this man she had never met and know nothing about. The father who raised her was a quadriplegic and both her mother and Fiona and devoted their lives to his care. The trip to Tuscany opened up another world for Fiona and in the process she learned about the passion that both her birth father and her mother shared for this place and for each other. It is a wonderful story, beautifully told.

Grape vines produce lovely fruit for wine that has become very popular and profitable in many countries. Today it has becoms a tourist attraction with many new wineries populating my area. Although the vines become tangled, they are pruned and produce new vines and fruit each year. The story setting was very intriguing and the untangling the lives of the characters led to the discovery of secrets and a family faced with a difficult choice.

The character development in this book is nicely done and the reader gets a great sense of who the characters are and how they will react as the plot unfolds. The descriptions of the beautiful Tuscany scenery really draw the reader into the story and I feel like I need to go to Italy right a way to experience the landscapes, climate, pasta and of course wine! Like all great love stories there are super highs and super lows, your emotions will get a good workout as You Follow the characters through their experiences. I enjoyed the book and we'll look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
