Finally! Finally, Lindy & Levi get their HEA! As much as I enjoyed the smoldering looks & snarkiness, these two deserved to find their happiness. And I’m really glad they found it together. All I can say about this book is WOW! I mean WOW WOW WOW DAMN WOW! This book was probably my favorite of this series – although I really loved the prequel to this series, The Mate.
There was so very much going on in this book that I can’t really say a lot without spoiling something (so I won’t). There are so many fascinating story lines that arc from the previous books in this series as well as from the Inferno Rising series since all the books are set in the same world. And what a fantastic ever-changing, magical world this is! It is so awe-inspiring to read and discover how this author weaves her tales between each character – whether they are human, phoenix, dragon or other shifter – and through the series set in these worlds she has created.
[This is from my review for the second book in the Inferno Rising series, The Blood King, but it applies here as well.] Books like this are the reason I love to read. There are some authors who are so adept at worldbuilding that opening their books and beginning to read transports you (back) into this magical place they have created. A world that sparks your imagination and allows you to see and feel the book come alive as you devour the pages. This author, with the Inferno Rising and Fire’s Edge series’, has created a world like this. A world where dragons (and bears and wolves) are real. Where they live and work alongside humans without us ever knowing, unless we are destined to become important to them. Where something as enchanting as mythical as a Phoenix can hide in plain sight, never revealing themselves for fear of losing their freedom or worse, their life. Where the strings of Fate wind between so many lives and bring surprises at every turn.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book through Netgalley and Entangled Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The worst part about this book is that it ended... and I mean that in the most loving way possible 😉🐉🐲 I could not put it down! I just wanted to keep reading. The characters, storyline, and suspenseful moments had me utterly hooked on each page. I’ve always had a soft spot for paranormal/shifter romance, and Abigail Owens always delivers as one of my top authors of the genre. I am easily able to lose myself in the incredible “alternate universes” she crafts with her words. Her writing is always so captivating, and this novel was no different. The main characters were perfection! Lyndi and Levi were simultaneously strong and vulnerable and had aspects of their personalities (and their lives) that I’m sure every reader can relate to (at least on SOME level because I’m guessing the people reading this review probably can’t shift😉 lol.) Now I want my very own Levi just like Lyndi! I happened to especially love Lyndi. I was rooting for her from the very beginning. Her perseverance and strength was admirable, overcoming and defying all that came with her unique situation. I was blown away by author Abigail Owen’s writing! I love, love, love her style and how she developed the story as each chapter goes on. I cannot wait to get my hands on any/all of her future works to come!❤️💕 100/10! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I have finished the entire Dragon series both America and Kings books!! I did get out sync not realizing that there was the entire series already completed. I do recommend that readers follow the sequence so no spoil alerts happens. I really liove Abigail s style of writing. Her plots, characters, battle scenes, romance and very fulfilling happy endings!!! And I love her paranormal world!! Makes it realistic and a fun way to relax and escaped for a while!! Thank you. 😀
This is the 5th book in the Fire’s Edge series. I have been waiting for Levi and Lyndi’s story and this swoony, nail biting book did not disappoint. Lyndi is a rare female born dragon. Female born dragons are sterile so their use is only as a spinster aunt to help care for their sibling’s children or to be married off for political reasons. Lyndi wants none of what others choose for her and crafts her own happy life. She chooses to “adopt” orphan dragons, who normally would end up being killed after going rogue, and makes a family with them. Levi has been a member of the Huracan enforcers for centuries, protecting humans from dragons, putting out dragon fires, and keeping the secret of dragon kind. Lyndi’s brother, Drake (The Enforcer) is Levi’s teammate and Lyndi came with Drake to the team two hundred years ago. This a very slow burn. Levi and Lyndi’s struggle to find love and navigate their individual paths as well as their path together in the midst of dragon politics, a war between the dragon kings, team expectations, and dangerous enemies will give you all the feels. A steamy story, exciting chases, lots of intrigue, family bonds, and sweet love makes this a story worth reading multiple times. The world building is phenomenal in this book and it parallels the author's Inferno Rising series. Each book is a stand alone with a HEA but they’re so good you should read them all.
Exciting and amazing. This is my first book in the Fire’s Edge series and I was completely captivated as I was pulled into this world of dragon shifters. From the moment Levi saw Lyndi in the sky, he felt and knew she was his mate but she is red dragon royalty so feels he wouldn’t be worthy. Lyndi has kept Levi at a distance for 200 years believing he didn’t like her. As tensions mount with another group of enforcers, this puts the orphans Lyndi rescues and raises at risk. This also has Levi spending more time with her as a protector. Now, these two are full of sparks, passion and stubbornness but when they finally give in and acknowledge how they feel, well, they are combustible. As a new threat comes for Lyndi and the orphans, they are put to the test to protect everyone. There is so much to love about this world. Even jumping in at book 4, I felt like the story gave me everything I needed to know to follow all the intrigue and drama between the different dragon clans.
I loved this book! The characters were wonderful and the storyline was amazing. Levi and Lyndi were so awesome together, and I was thrilled with the outcome; especially the ending…it was perfect!
From the beginning of the story, it was easy to get lost in the pages because they were full of action, adventure, suspense, sexual tension, mystery, danger, and smoking hot romance. It’s literally an insta-attraction blaring bright turned to a simmering longing hidden by misunderstandings and events out of their control keeping them apart. But when they finally connect, they seriously smoke up the pages.
The world-building of this series was really great; it was easy to picture the scenes as they played out and I enjoyed the history and hierarchy of the dragons and the mates and different colored dragons’ interactions (some good, some bad). Lyndi’s orphans were a nice addition to the mix and I loved the cave troll. And again, the ending..sigh! The entire book was awesome!
*I received an arc of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
My favorite in the Fire's Edge series so far, The Protector is addicting! Non-stop action, steamy romance, and a deep love of orphans that need a guiding hand, this book has it all. I honestly couldn't put it down and read it in a day! I've pre-ordered it to add to the rest of the series to go back and read again. This series is Just. That. Good!
Thank you to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for providing me an arc of this book. This review is my honest opinion of the works of this author.
