5.0 out of 5 stars If I could, Iโ€™d give this book 10 stars out of 5 - 200%!

Juliet Funt names the busyness epidemic that is rampant, especially in North America. And she gives very practical advice and tools in how to counter it. Specifically, creating 'white space', as she calls it, in our lives.

I have already begun to implement some of the practises and tools in order to take back my life and work. As a supervisor, Iโ€™ve invited a couple of my team members to read through this book in September so that, together, we can think about some habits we can change in our team in order to have a positive impact in our organization.

I think this is a book that I will come back to regularly, to remind myself of the tools and practices and to be inspired to change.

White space - we all need it. And we can have it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Being purposeful about your time.
Reviewed in Canada ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ on August 4, 2021
While this concept seems so easy to understand, the challenge is in the execution. Juliet gives the reader clear and deliberate tools to reclaim time in our busy lives. These tools and rules are simplified to be implemented in our professional and personal lives with the promise of being more present and productive.

By providing examples from her own life and revealing the ah-ha moments that helped her identify and shape these tools, she gives the reader assurance that they too can create more moments to think.

I'd recommend this book to anyone who just can't seem to find the time. It will help you assess your current state and guide you to evaluate and understand how to be more purposeful with the time you have and create space and time in places you thought impossible.

As someone who supports front line staff and leadership in health care, I'll be recommending this book to all my clients! Her elegant and practical approach to creating intentional moments is so critically needed for all of us. Her 'strategic pause' reference and insights can help those who feel the need to be productive and efficient while practicing self-care. I thoroughly enjoyed Juliet's content and writing style which is easy to digest and apply!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Insights in "A Minute to Think" Work! (I've applied them to my life for over 7 years.)

"A Minute to Think" starts with a problem many of us face daily. We just don't seem to have time to stop and think. Juliet Funt acknowledges this surface level problem and digs deep.

She explores why smart, successful people struggle to have a moment of thoughtfulness. And she provides a set of useful tools that you can use to change how you shape your days.

And be able to insert that small "wedge" of time that allows you to be more thoughtful.

I've known Juliet for about a decade. I had a chance to work alongside her and also learn from her.

And it reshaped how I shape my days and how I lead my team.

Juliet could have written a version of this book eight years ago.

These ideas have been simmering in her mind for that whole time.

Instead, she gave herself time to think about her subject.

She's taken her thinking much further than her early days.

And she's gotten feedback from people -- like me -- who have implemented her advice into their lives.

"A Minute to Think" is a smart and incredibly practical book.

If you're feeling overloaded and busy -- "A Minute to Think" should be a gift to yourself.

It's well worth the time you'll spend reading it.

Here is your chance to calm down the chaos, and reclaim your focus on your priorities. This book is full of ideas, but itโ€™s also written in a very easy to learn manner. I would use a highlighter and dog-ear pages for this book, there will be tips to apply to your life. What does our busyness get us? I love the chapter summaries, โ€œtake a moment to thinkโ€, lists some key takeaways from the chapter, and also asks a reflective question. This makes the book very interactive amd applicable. Also, the footnotes at the end are amazing references, if you want to learn more about a topic it will be very easy to track down. One very actionable tip could transform meetings. She recommends that we model meetings at 45 or 50 minutes, versus 60. This gives travel time to the next meeting, time for a bio break, and potentially a few minutes of white space. This is great for you, but itโ€™s also great for your team members and colleagues. This book is an excellent resource and reference. It will continue to be helpful for years to come. I think my minute for review is up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Since reading this book..

Since reading this book I am beginning to see white space available all around me. Overlooked, I now literally see it in the printed page that makes the words visible to my reading eye. More importantly, I see white space available in the ways I engage with people and actually with myself.

Juliet observes reality with all its challenges. She uses picturesque words to brighten clarity, deepen understanding and bring hope for change at work and home. As I care for my forgetful 96 year old mother in her own home, I am challenged to use this time to create honorable moments in her present (sic) and build memories that I can carry on to my children (4) and grandchildren (16).

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your average business book

My first exposure to the incredibly talented Juliet Funt was during a conference in Vancouver many moons ago. She completely captivated a room of more than a thousand people with her ability to combine wit, empathy and humor in a very unique way. This book is a thousand times better, because you get that wonderful combination in chapter after chapter.

She delivers super-easy-to implement suggestions (with some subtle sides of snark and brilliant pop culture references) to de-clutter your mind and Outlook calendar so that you can be more productive and less overwhelmed. I'm pretty sure my coworkers are tired of me telling them "YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK!"

But seriously, you have to read this book!
