5.0 out of 5 stars Mistakes are costly

The Centre of the Wand Control has suspended Grammies Wand Shop license. Amethyst has made a wand with sea glass and this is not acceptable so she has to prove herself to the CWC. This is Amethyst first clash with CWC but won’t be her last, a short read to introduce you to Amethyst. I would recommend this book and series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rules Are There to Keep Wand Users Safe

This is a short prequel to the Amethyst’s wand Shop Mysteries and sees Amy (Amethyst) awaiting a reply to her application to the Paranormal Police Department (PPD), which is her dream job. Meanwhile she helps her Grammie at the wand shop that has been in their family for years. Grammie expects Amy to take over the running of the shop when she is gone, but it’s not exactly what Amy wants. Her Grammie has been training her in wand making for years, but Amy likes to put her own spin on things occasionally, instead of following the very strict rules her Grammies tells her to. One of those has now come back to bite her, when the shop is told to stop trading, by the Centre for Wand Control (CWC). It seems the piece of sea glass she had found as a child and decided to make part of her own wand, is a material they are not authorised to use and could prove to be dangerous!

She decides to try and sort out the problem herself, but getting to see anyone at the CWC is not exactly an easy task, with waiting lists for a simple appointment weeks away. She uses her stubbornness to annoy them into seeing her, not wanting her Grammie to keep losing business, until they can find out what the issue was. Finding out it was actually her own fault, makes matters ten times worse! Now she needs to prove that her sea glass is not an unstable component material to use in a wand. She will have to follow the requirements of the CWC and jump through all of their hoops, in an effort to get the suspension lifted from her Grammie’s shop. This short prequel gives the reader a look at both Amy and Grammie and the processes of wand making. It shows what sort of nature and affinity Amy has for wand making, but also more about her personality and fight for what she sees as right. I received an ARC copy of this book from Book Sprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Amethyst is a wandmaker who dreams of working in the police Department, but when her life seems to fall apart she shows what she's made of, what she values, how she deals with adversity and obstacles and does everything in her power to set her life back to rights.

This done in one does everything a prequel should, introducing the world, and the main character... and best of all, leaving me wanting to return to this world.

Amethyst of the Gemstone Coven has always wanted to join the Paranormal Police Department. She has applied for a job and is waiting to see if they will hire her. She receives a letter from the Centre of Wand Control. The letter informs her that her grandmother’s license to make wands has been suspended. Amethyst goes to the CWC to see why they have suspended their wand making license. She finds out someone reported that some of their wands are made with unlicensed materials. The CWC has traced the remnants of magic to an unlicensed magnifier. She realizes this is all her fault. She must prove to the CWC that sea glass is not an unstable material for wand making. Will she be able to save her grandma’s business? Amethyst is a fun and enthusiastic character. This is a prequel to the Amethyst Wand Shop Mysteries. This is a cute and amusing quick read. The story flows well and keeps you interested. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
