To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I'm an adult who writes and loves to read middle grade books as well as the parent of an elementary age. I bought this book on release day based almost exclusively on the cover, which is gorgeous. I'm so glad I did, because the book is delightful. Harriet is just the kind of flawed but charming character kids can relate to. Her grandmother is wonderful, and the setting of the Bric a Brac B&B and Marble Island is immersive. Harriet grows and learns about herself without the book being the least bit preachy. And the mystery element is woven in well. This book will appeal to mystery loving and non mystery loving readers alike. I can't wait for more installments in this series. I think Harriet will claim a place among beloved lower MG heroines like Judy Moody and Clementine.
