A great end to an awesome series. Full of action, suspense, danger, excitement, unexpected twists and turns, and including an intense storyline that will hold your attention and keep you flipping the pages. Finally, we get Rune’s full story and it definitely proves that not everything is always as it seems. There are layers upon layers and I enjoyed seeing him finally be able to get some vindication and acceptance and find his HEA. Rune and Hayden were awesome characters who balanced and challenged each other along the way. I loved that Hayden, being raised in the dragon world to be a mate, knew how to take care of herself and do things on her own. She was right there in the middle of it all, doing what needed to be done regardless of the consequences. I also enjoyed seeing other couples and catching up with them throughout the story. It’s sad to see this series comes to and end but each book was a fantastic adventure in the dragon world. I can’t wait to see what’s in store next.
*I received an ARC from the author via NetGalley and I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Oh my goodness. This book is everything. It was a masterpiece of suspense and romance. I knew where the story needed to go but I was not sure how we were going to get there. Fortunately, the journey was even better than I expected. Expect to feel all the things while reading this book - expect to swoon, to bite your nails, to cheer, and to cry. The Traitor has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, fan your face steamy sex, dangerous excitement, cut throat and loyal supernatural creatures, and even some chuckles, all set against the backdrop of a continuing conflict in the dragon world. I love a book that includes a grumpy, tortured hero or a capable self-rescuing heroine and this book includes both. Rune, is a rogue dragon who has made it his personal mission to go against the dragon counsel and save unmated dragon mates. He believed in his cause enough to abandon his team of dragon enforcers decades ago and become a hated dragon. Rune feels like he is so unworthy even though he’s not. He’s a good guy and you just know love will let him see he’s such a kind, sweet, good guy who deserves all the good things. Hayden is a dragon mate whose fated mate died when she was a child before they were mated. Her adopted rogue dragon parents have recently been captured, imprisoned and are awaiting execution. Hayden is more than capable on her own for most things but this is beyond her so she turns to Rune to help her save them. On their way to their HEA while trying to stay one step ahead of their enemies, Rune and Hayden have to both learn to let down their walls - to let go of their pasts and where they thought they were supposed to go in order to embrace a life neither one thought was possible for themselves. With The Traitor, Abigail Owens once again proves she’s a fantastic world builder and story weaver. While the book is a standalone, there is an overarching story arc that threads through the series so they are best read in order. And while this book is the end of this series, the dragon conflict and war continues in the parallel Inferno Rising series.
Another awesome book added to the fire’s edge series.
Rune & Hadyn’s story…. I seriously could not get enough of these two. Rune has been a traitor for the past decade. He has been trying to save the innocent but of course going against your governing system is going to cause some problems… We have been getting bits and pieces of Rune thought out this series and now we finally have a book all to himself. You can’t help yourself but feel for this guy. He is smart, broody, sexy, an alpha with a good heart. He has lost so much… his team, his friends and family, his hideout and so much more. But with everything going on he still remains strong and continues to do what is right.
Hadyn is basically the female version of Rune. Smart, beautiful, witty, loyal and strong. She is everything that Rune needed in his life. She is on a mission to save her adopted parents who is technically her dead mates parents. She has also lost so much in her life. She finally goes to Rune for help in rescuing her parents and that’s when her world centers around Rune.
They are just so cute with each other. I loved every part of this story and let me tell you what a story it is! I absolutely loved how this book adds on to larger picture and combines everything that is going on in the dragon shifter world. Seeing the corruption for the Huracán enforcers side and seeing how they fight the larger war bits and pieces at a time is just amazing. The chemistry between Rune and Hadyn is seriously off the chart and also very steamy.
I absolutely loved how Abigail connected Fire’s edge and Inferno Rising and ALSO mentioning Brimstone Inc. I totally cried with some parts and still am shocked about certain events. I seriously cannot wait for her next book which is part of the Inferno Rising series and so I totally recommend starting both series (if you haven’t already) and catch up. So totally worth it! 🖤
Rune Abaddon has been an anathema. Enforcer turned rogue traitor turned freedom fighter, Rune has been someone we’ve gotten to know bit by bit as the series has unfurled. He’s spent years doing the right thing, misunderstood because the right thing goes directly against those in power and in league with the Rotting King, Pytheios (check out the spin-off series, starting with The Rogue King). His friends and brothers haven’t seen what he knows, not until recently, so the last decade has been hard, going it alone. In this book, all his hard work and sacrifice pay off in the form of Hayden, a woman who lost her fated green mate when she was 10 and who has been raised by rogue shifters.
Their relationship was so much fun. I loved how they got each other from the beginning, even if her fading green mate marking threw a wrench into the mix. She’s pushed out Sera as my favorite of the mates, and I love how well adjusted she is, whether that’s to being a mate or just dragons in general.
If you love this series, this is not one to miss. Seriously big things happen in the over-arching world of dragonkind, within the Huracan team, and for Rune. I’m so glad he found what brings him some peace and I can’t wait to see what happens next (after all, we still have unmated members of the team; Hall should be next, and there’s still the whole Pytheios thing happening).
We have Rune and Hayden. Finally Rune's book and I have been waiting for this one and Abigail did not disappoint! Hadyn was once a human mate. Her mate died and was adopted by dragon shifters. She was raised on the knowledge of dragon shifters. Hayden is sweet and has attitude to pass around. Rune is one of the first black dragons and turned rogue and branded a traitor. Now through the entire series we see Rune as a total ass and sometimes jerk but it isn't always as it seems. The chemistry between Rune and Hayden is astronomical. Hayden tests Rune at every corner and Hayden is determined to to destroy all his defenses. I knew this story as well as the entire series would get better and better! I don't want to go into alot of detail that will spoil the story but worth every word!
Just when I think I have a favorite book by Abigail Owen, she wow's me all over again. I've been waiting for this hero's story which means I came into the book with very high hopes and expectations. It did not disappoint! The Traitor is the culmination of the two series coming together in a fiery (yeah, I dragon punned) romance that's a sexy page turner that has you at the edge of your seat to see how these two make it through all the challenges together. The hero met all of our waiting-for-his-book hopes, and the strong heroine is a perfect match. Highly recommend.
Received the first book free and it was so good, I bought the rest of the series. Dragon Shifters, human mates and even a cave troll to keep things interesting. Enjoyed the sex scenes which were a part of the story but not the storyline itself.
