4.0 out of 5 starsIf it weren't for Facebook, it'd be 5 stars.
Reviewed in Canada on September 1, 2021
The "new" 128Gb Quest 2 is a welcome increase in storage space over the prior 64Gb model, as the OS eats up a fair bit of space on that storage. Fortunately the apps and games are mostly small in install size.

For a standalone VR headset (with ability to connect to a gaming PC for PCVR), it does a fantastic job at bringing you this experience. However, the requirement for Facebook is a sour note to using it as it is tied to your real life social media account. You can make a alias for it though so other gamers don't see your real name.. but still, the writing is on the wall that this is for personal data collection while you use it. Take that for what it's worth, as the low cost is clearly subsidized from Facebook's personal data collection as the unit is sold at a loss otherwise.

The Pros:
-Small and portable.
-VR capability is great. It's not powerful to provide realistic graphics, but the games are really effective at giving you a sense of scale and being in the VR world. Framerates are fast and colors are vivid. It works great.
-Low cost compared to everything else on the market (which requires a PC - which this doesn't).
-Ability to cast gameplay to a chromecast type device for others to see.
-Install sizes are small (most),

Cons:
- Facebook required.
- The strap is uncomfortable and doesn't do a good job of keeping the weight off your face. It's essentially a fabric belt, so you'll want to invest in a better headband for more support.
- Battery capacity gives you about 2+ hours playtime so it's quite low. If you supplement with an external battery, the Quest will run off of that before it goes to it's own battery, so you'll want to invest in a battery pack for more playtime.
- Lenses have a small focal "sweet spot" and this coupled with the troublesome headstrap means that you will frequently adjust the headset to reduce fatigue to your eyes.
- Resolution varies in standalone games as the headset may need to lower resolution to allow for appropriate processing power - depending on the app. While the headset is "almost 2K per eye", there will still be some blur, and in some games, you will notice a fair amount if the game drops the resolution as needed. This is not a frequent issue, but I am mentioning it just in case some owners wonder why game X is clearer than game Y. Having said this, a number of titles have been patched for the higher processing power of the Quest 2's headset and do have increased resolution over the original Quest 1.
- The Oculus game store does not have big-discount sales like Steam or Playstation for their VR headsets. There is a daily deal and sometimes weekly deals with a couple of games in them, but the discounts range from about 9% to 30%. Overall, games on Quest 2 will cost you more to purchase as most will stay at full price.

In conclusion .. don't look at the small list of Pros as a negative as what it does, it does great and is well worth the cost. Just know that the cons show that it does have limitations so don't expect the moon, and the basic headset will likely need a better headband and external battery to get the best enjoyment out of it. It's a 5 star headset absolutely - but Facebook's requirement is something to understand, as if your account is ever banned on Facebook... you will lose all your purchases and the headset will become useless.

1.0 out of 5 starsProduct broke with absolutely no force or impact
Reviewed in Canada on June 13, 2021
I had the elite strap on for a few weeks and had gotten to use my headset roughly around 20 hours in those two weeks. It was fine during that time, fit well, seemed firm. However my computer's graphics card failed, and so I left my VR headset on the desk, next to my computer for several weeks while I got the warranty for my card to replace it. After I had my computer up and running again, again after the VR headset was sitting not being touched for several weeks, I picked it up (from the front, heavy side, not the strap) and the snap just snapped in half under its own weight. This is absolutely unacceptable for the price they are charging. I had read the reviews of others saying the band snapped, figured it couldn't be as bad as they said, but sure enough, it's true, with no pressure, no force, just leave it on a desk for a few weeks and it will snap all on its own. Extremely disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great
Reviewed in Canada on December 1, 2020
Style: Elite StrapVerified Purchase
I bought the Elite strap when I pre-ordered my Quest-2.
It is much better than the standard strap that comes with the headset but at it's price point isn't that great. Yes, it does improve comfort, the strap tightening mechanism feels really cheap and it has no built in headphones (Something the Quest-2 desperately needs). Since getting this, I bought a Vive Deluxe Audio Strap and used 3D printed parts to attach it to my Quest-2 (Now called a FrankenQuest2), this is a amazing solution, yes, more expensive but you get what you pay for, this is very comfortable and the the built in headphones sound great. Personally, I'd skip the Oculus Elite strap and put that money towards a Vive Deluxe Audio Strap and make your own FrankenQuest2. :)

3.0 out of 5 stars Amazon service is amazing, Oculus is not.
Reviewed in Canada on November 25, 2021
Style: 128 GB HeadsetVerified Purchase
I first purchased a 128GB model at the end of September and it functioned well with my use of the Supernatural VR fitness program. Then one day after my return window expires, the right controller became unresponsive and could not connect to the headset. Oculus customer service took forever to connect and I didn't receive a response. When tried to factory reset the headset following Oculus's official instructions, the reset stuck on the initial page and could not progress further, and the right controller still remained as unconnected. Out of frustration, I contacted Amazon to express my frustration and Amazon very kindly offered me a replacement unit despite my return/exchange window had expired the day before. Hooray for Amazon! Boooo for Oculus.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good VR Headset. Facebook Login is Pathetic
Reviewed in Canada on December 13, 2021

Quest is a nice headset & an amazing VR experience. The games are real fun & enjoyment for the whole family. The set is a bit heavy so you may feel a bit of pressure on your neck after 30 minutes of play, so keep turns short & those neck massagers handy.

The worst part of the experience is the facebook account needed to use the headset. Basically, all your purchases are locked in with facebook account. There is no point of linking a social media account when you just want to enjoy games. And who in their right mind will share their personal info and purchases with facebook, who are proven to sell your info to third parties.

So, there is always a sword hanging on your head that if facebook decides to suspend your account, for any stupidest of reasons, you will lose your occulus account as well, with little to no reprieve. This is such a shame.

Cannot think of any other product out there which has such limitation on their consumers. They really need to jot down a predictable way to sort out account issues so you can retrieve, transfer or moneyback your purchases (which can end up in hundreds of dollars)

3.0 out of 5 stars Broke after 1 month - crappy replacement policy
Reviewed in Canada on April 3, 2022
Style: 128 GB HeadsetVerified Purchase
UPDATED MAY 5 2022 - see the end. We purchased this a month ago. We both love it. Then after an update the right eye piece failed to work. Rebooted, both hard and soft, did at least 6 factory resets but nothing worked. We were able to log onto the chat (and after being dropped 2 times) and uploading a video of the unit not working (along with the particulars such as Serial numbers etc) just to be told we would be getting a replacement. We were adamant that we did NOT WANT A REFURBISHED UNIT as this was just a month old. The staff were excellent so I can’t fault them - but the company’s policy sucks. We were recommended to get a refund through Amazon. Nope they don’t refund things like this. Back to oculus for the refurbished unit. Sigh. I’m starting to think oculus only replaces with refurbished units because they know of the glitch in the new original units. Admitting to said known glitch would mean a recall of extraordinary magnitude. This way they get the bad units back, send out a fixed previously bad unit to the customer who’s returned unit will be fixed sent out to the. next weary customers. It's way cheaper than a recall but long after the sweet taste of saving a buck comes the bitterness left behind from your customers dissatisfaction. We have long memory’s. UPDATE - I have increased to 3 stars from 1. Our replacement unit FINALLY arrived - Thank you. We were delighted to have received a NEW REPLACEMENT UNIT (not a refurbished one - as far as we can tell). So far, it is working well. I will update this again in July or August 2022.

3.0 out of 5 stars Torture to wear. Double the cost with add-ons.

I can't believe they released this without noticing how horribly uncomfortable it is to wear. This has been the universal opinion of people I run into in the "Meta" world. At the very least you need to replace the head strap. It is incredibly uncomfortable on the face - again corrected by third-party add-ons.

On the other hand, what choice do we have to keep up with "meta", which, in itself, looks interesting?

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun but pc is a pain + Facebook
Reviewed in Canada on February 12, 2022

So far I've been having alot of fun with this vr. Setup is pretty easy and had no problems. Everything works great. Been playing vrchat a fun one and a few other of Quests crappy games and they work great. The battery lasts around 3 hours and takes 2 hours to charge. But don't expect to link up to your pc without a headache! Unless your pc is top of the line it won't be compatible. No adult vr games on the quest 2 at all. Not many good games unless you have pc link. You can sideload more mature games but you have Facebook watching what you play. I hate the idea of having to sign in with a Facebook account to use this headset! But if your not worried about that this is perfect. Back it up Facebook I want to play Adult games and don't need you controlling me ...

OK I’m almost 40 So I guess my brain is getting to the point where these devices kind of make me for lack of a better word nauseous other than that the straps do annoy you overtime and they are not the greatest mine has not snapped and broken off yet so I’m hoping that’s kind of not gonna happen but then if it does I don’t know what will I do because what happens after that other than that this product isn’t perfect but you do get what you pay for and if you want anything better you’re looking into the thousands so yeah

3.0 out of 5 stars Not desinged for people with big heads and astigmatism
Reviewed in Canada on February 15, 2022

The product is ok for the price but I have a big head so my glasses won't fit in there, the problem is that I have astigmatism which cause some parts of the images to be blury if I don't correct my vision with contact lenses or glasses, so I would have to wear contact lenses to see well which I don't have. My facebook account won't register and would freeze trying to login to the meta worlds, so because of those issues, i returned it.

Style: Elite Strap with BatteryVerified Purchase
I dived right into VR without ever using it in the past and was very impressed and still am. without the extra battery strap you will get over an hour of usage with the oculus head set. For newbies, that's LOTS. it will take time to get used to the weight of the vr head set and it takes time to get used to the hand controls. I would not purchase the elite strap until you find that you are using up a full charge and still want to use it more. keep in mind that the battery strap will add weight to system and it will take time again to build up your neck muscles so it doesn't hurt using the system.

3.0 out of 5 stars Side strap broken after a few months (edited)

Edit: Oculus replaced the strap with a new one, so that's nice, and we will see how long it lasts. However, my off brand cable no longer works, even though it was perfect for a while. I charges still so there is nothing wrong with the cable or port, my guess is they have some kind of proprietary lock out to prevent you from using an off brand cable.

Product broke - seems to be a common issue. Perhaps there is something wrong with the plastic or design but It just cracked without me doing anything to it. I hope I can find an after market one because this cost a lot of money and honestly should have come with the headset to begin with. I hope they will refund me, but I doubt it. I will update if they do.
