How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I don't think even Barbara Cartland or Zane Grey is as lacking in range as this author. I read her first book (a 'riff' on Machen's "The White People" ; liked it well enough to try her next book (a 'riff' on Blackwood's "The Willows") and I couldn't help but notice that the 'authorial voice' in both books was identical. So this book's premise and setting suggested the author was going for something a bit more ambitious: NOPE. Absolutely the same first-person 'voice' as the first two books. The author sets a novel in the latter part of the 19th century , and creates this ridiculous background/subplot about women soldiers and pronouns because she simply cannot enter the mind of a man, or anyone too different from herself. The whole thing just seems silly , because apparently this world is otherwise identical with our 19th century (not an alternate world IOW). And this first person narrator is just as snarky and annoying as the first two, she just doesn't have a cellphone and internet access, but otherwise is interchangeable with the first-person narrators of the first two novels. So : that's it. I am DONE with this author, due to her utter inability to do anything but write the same first-person book, basically , over and over and over and-

Picked this up because of cover and decent reviews. I've never read or heard about the fall of usher House so was unsure as to how the story would go. It was a really good idea and I feel like it had potential however with it being a horror book I personally thought it was pretty stale, there wasn't anything scary or even thrilling about this book.
