I really like that the font colours for the two languages are different. It's a large and easy to read font and the sentences are simple enough for kids to follow along and see how the words correlate in each language. And the best part is that all the sentences are actually questions that not only ask about what they see in the book but invites the kids to think beyond the book. "Is she talking to a fairy? What is she talking about?" There's nothing in the picture to indicate what they're talking about, the kids can come up with any ideas of their own and I really like that.
Disclaimer: I received a free digital copy of this book but my opinion is my own.
The bilingual children’s books put out by this author are a lot of fun for bilingual children… or children learning a second language. Some books have been problematic, with language errors in the English version, making me question whether such errors exist in the other language. Except for French, I only have a passing knowledge of the other languages these books are in. I am happy to say, however, that I detected no grievous errors in the English sections of the book. This one is a whimsical delight. The book is completely interactive, which I always love to see in a children’s book. Each 2-page spread features a question about the unicorn and where we can find her. Usually, it is extremely obvious, but sometimes you see just a part of her (like her tail)... and other times the animal in question is NOT a unicorn (but is instead a horse or a dragon). The color palette is appropriately bright. The book ends with several coloring pages, taken from illustrations in the book. If you have a young bilingual child or one who is learning Spanish, she or he will probably find this book a delight.
I received a free copy of this picture book, but that did not affect my review.
Please help find my missing unicorn, Lily. There are a number of places we need to check, but I feel confident we can find her if we work together. Children will enjoy the colorful illustrations as they search for Lily.
