Isn't there some saying about how the right book finds you at the right time? Or maybe that's a venereal disease. In either case, I had no idea how much I needed this book until I read it. Here's why:
As a professional commercial director, when I'm on a job, it's full-on. But when I'm off, let's just say I have quite a bit more time on my hand. And with age, kids, and Covid it's become increasingly difficult to schedule my time. Well, no more! Seriously. Paul's book offers practical advice for getting your life and creative career in order. His personal stories and struggles are relatable and make for a fun, easy, but still very useful read.
Can't recommend enough. Will be sending to quite a few friends for the Holidays.
Having been a fan of Paul's since his Iowa State days, I have found him to be an enjoyable follow over the years. I was also reading the book Atomic Habits by James Clear at work, and so Paul's book was very much a 2nd way to interpret many of the same ideas, but in an easier read, and in my eye, easier and clearer ways to bring it into my personal life. I had some high level ideas after reading Atomic Habits, but after reading this book, I now am ready to dive in and give building a process some good effort!
Paul Shirley nails it. A perfect synthesis of other great works on the subject, coupled with his own experience, gets you excited to start your own process. And feel like you have the tools to execute and stay on the path.
