I was so excited for this book to come out, and when it did, I wasn’t disappointed. Juliet writes from a place of authenticity. Juliet is a fighter, a fire cracker, and a voice of liberation in the witch community. Not everyone will agree with the contents of this book, but I personally found it eye opening. Juliet Diaz never fails to amaze me with her works and The Altar Within is no exception. Without resorting to toxic positivity or spiritual bypassing, but instead helping us identify and avoid those types of practices, Diaz challenges the reader to recognize that we are Divine, we are our own Altar, and we can heal ourselves, our ancestral lines, and work collectively to end injustices in the world. If as a whyte person you're still ensconced in your privilege this book may be more challenging than you bargained for (this certainly seems to be the case for those who left reviews claiming the book/author is racist against white people, which is literally not a thing lol) but if you are ready to do the work, this book can be the gift you didn't know you needed.

This is not a book that you read once and put away. There is so much wisdom and truth in this book. If you are a white person and are feeling attacked by this book, then I would suggest you take a deep look at yourself and what you are holding onto. Juliet's invitation to look within is the only way out of the colonial, patriarchal mess that we are in. So many spiritual books are all about love and light, toxic positivity, ableism, and victim blaming. As someone who has spent over 20 years in the yoga/wellness world, and I am now undoing the harm of "good vibes only" and the belief that I caused my chronic illness. Yoga and wellness are toxic af, and Juliet Diaz is the real deal.

Juliet Diaz has a way with words. Has a way of making you feel, look inside yourself and make changes for the better. The Altar Within is a beautiful book that is needed. As a white woman, I try hard to learn and watch where my practice comes from. I do not want to step on or butcher practices from those before me or on indigenous people's sacred practices. This book is eye opening and empowering. It is a must if you are into witchcraft in anyway shape or form.

She writes from a very personal perspective but never do you feel excluded.
