3.0 out of 5 starsWordy, repetitive
Reviewed in Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ on December 3, 2017
This book serves as an entry level to familiarize with psychiatric terms, however, it is wordy and repetitive. Author tends to use complex English words, requiring looking up the dictionary, and subsequent loss of thread. Although, it is intended to be simple. While this should address DSM 5, the author deliberately categories ADHD along course of OCD being two ends of focus spectrum, which DSM 5 didn’t.

4.0 out of 5 stars DSM 5 vs ICD 10
Reviewed in Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ on June 8, 2015
Excellent book but should have clarified further the changes from DSM IV to DSM 5 and then compared in relation to ICD 10. It just matches code to code between DSM 5 vs ICD10. Still a very good effort. I have realised after going through this book that how DSM IV TR was behind ICD 10 and basically DSM 5 is an effort to catch up with ICD 10 as many new diagnoses which are included in DSM 5 were already in ICD 10. Its a huge step towards harmonising the two diagnostic and classification systems and hopefully one day it would be one. It is even more interesting that in both US and Canada it is ICD 9 which is used for billing purposes and not any version of DSM. DSM is more used in academic situations and for writing reports but is codes are not acceptable for MSP billing in Canada or in US.

Book was recommended to me by a co-worker. Helped me understand the diagnoses given by my providers. Recommend this book for greater insight on how the disorders break down , in easy too understand words.

Somewhat helpful. I appreciate their theory on spectrums of categorization but to me i think it can confuse someone into thinking certain disorders are related when they are not. Example- they put ADHD and OCD on the same "spectrum" based on inattention vs excessive attention ... i get where they're trying to go, but idk if i agree with that exactly
