First off, we love you Shannon but Stellarlune is not stellar. This book was sheer torture to read. Literally over 700 pages of nothing. I donโ€™t like Sophie in this book, or the last one for that matter. Which is not good, considering she is the main character. She is whinny, bratty, and just over all an unlikable pain. This is the point in reviews that usually warn about spoiler alerts but considering thereโ€™s not that much to spoil I will continue. One minute our little Moonlark is angry that people are keeping secrets and the next minute sheโ€™s spouting off about how she canโ€™t tell anyone anything because itโ€™s a secret. So.....I guess when She wantโ€™s to know something, NOT OK but when sheโ€™s hiding something, TOTALLY OK. She ignores her friends, throws tantrums, hides in her room hugging pillows and disrespects pretty much everyone. Then thereโ€™s the part where sheโ€™s mad at Fitz and the next minute her heart is all a flutter. Oh and did we mention her obsession with Keefe who also seems to make her all nervous, sweaty, and fluttery despite the fact that he is barely in the book because Big Surprise! heโ€™s run off again. So, deja vu! our little heroine has to go after him or sheโ€™ll just die with worry. Oh! but wait, he might die but NOT!
cause heโ€™s just held up in some expensive suite in an equally expensive hotel not really trying to get back to her or contact her in any way. Cause heโ€™s so angsty and torn and broody. Also, if I had to read how Edaline tucked Sophieโ€™s hair behind her ear one more time I may have had to gouge my own eyes out. This was literally the entire book. Over 600 Pages of Sophie likes Keefe, no Fitz, no Keefe, no wait Fitz or is it Keefe? No....she despises Fitz, but not really. SIGH! Were there other people in this story? I vaguely remember something...No... my memory must have been washed. This whole thing read like a really bad Soap Opera which is saying something taking into account that all Soap Operaโ€™s are pretty bad. What happened to the storyline that weโ€™ve been following for the last 8 books? Excuse me, 8.5 books. Who even does that? Exceptions? Last Three chapters. And the real spoiler alert!!!! Cliff Hanger! which is not actually a spoiler alert because they all end this way. Shannon, Iโ€™m feeling twitchy, you gave me a twitch. My $$ for this book are in the void somewhere. And I canโ€™t get it back.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bored Beyond Reason
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on February 5, 2023

I kept checking my progress. 50%. 60%

*spoiler: I was so freaking bored I swore I'd stop if Keefe didn't show up by the end of chapter 36. That was the 75% mark that I thought he'd show up at but it's Shannon messenger. Who knows? Me apparently. He was in the last sentence.

80%. 90%. I question why I ever liked this series in the first place. The only redeeming quality was Keefe but there's not even that anymore. She's bitten off more than she can chew. I don't know how I managed to get the rest of the way through this book but I was so bored the whole time. Nothing happened until the very end, per usual. And I only really cared what was happening to Sokeefe, as usual. I don't care about Marella or Maruca or Fitz or Sandor or Mr. Forkle or Prentice or any of the freaking dozens of main characters I'm supposed to be emotionally attached to. Notice when Sophie is fuming she brings up injuries and scars but not one of the dozens of people I'm supposed to be emotionally attached to had died. And without

*spoiler: Ro or Keefe to keep me entertained throttle most the book.

I've said it a bunch but it doesn't match what I told everybody as I was reading it. I WAS SO BORED. Shannon Messenger is way in over her head. She doesn't know how she's going to resolve all of the things she's opened so I've stopped expecting a great resolution that clearly doesn't exist. She should've stopped so long ago but she just tries to make it bigger and bigger with no reason or hope of resolution.

You'll probably read this book regardless of what I say because, like, we all need to know what happens to the only redeemable part of the whole series (Keefe) but I hope prepared too be so bored and disappointed.

Also: why is the book called freaking Stellarlune?

I have been reading these books to my daughter since the second one was published. She was originally entranced by them. We have read all eight books, plus the "8.5" book and enjoyed them for the most part. She is now 11 and while she reads plenty on her own, I still read to her every night and we were very excited when this book finally arrived. We pre-ordered it months and months ago, and have been reading other books together in the interim. I also read 70-100 books a year, and listen to audiobooks while driving.

We are about halfway through this one and it feels like we are on page 1500. It is SO SLOW. Ms. Messenger's editor should really be fired. Her idea of drama is to put 12 characters in a room and have them debate something for 30 pages, then have 9 of them go into another room with some other characters and have the same debate. Nothing happens.

This series had potential. Ms. Messenger created a story with a telepathic flying unicorn, and then pushed that character so far into the background, it's like an afterthought.

This book is a serious slog to get through. Even my daughter, who should be the target audience, is not that into it anymore.

We've read over 7000 pages of this series and a better writer and more diligent editor could have told the story better in 1200 pages.

Pages missing from book. Story is great and we have usually been happy with book purchases, but in this particular book my daughter just discovered while reading it that pages 253-284 are missing! The return window just passed yesterday, Jan 31 since my daughter was enjoying the book and had no plans to return it - we would greatly appreciate if you would consider fixing this so the book can be read fully. See photos attached.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sophie is so complaining ALL THE TIME!!

This is crazy! I feel like I am reading a book about a spoiled brat- Sophie!! Complaining 24/7, has no respect for anyone in the book (not even some of the Council members who have been alive for eons!). After the last book I was hoping this one will be better.
Donโ€™t waste your precious time reading this. Find a better author who wonโ€™t just take your money for a story that is not advancing AT ALL!

My daughter has been a big fan of the Keeper of the Lost Cities series by Shannon Messenger. This was a Christmas gift for her, while reading, she noticed that after page 252, the page number changes to 349 and the continues to 380 before returning to 285. The pages 349-380 are repeated in their correct location. The rest of the book appears to be bound correctly. I wish I could fix this for her.

Ordered the first run of this book for my daughter. There are pages are missing and out of order, and as a result she was unable to read the book. Also by the time we realized this, the return window had expired.
