2.0 out of 5 stars Boring and repetitive

Nothing new happens in this book until the very end!!!! It is whinny and repetitive. I have really enjoyed reading this series to my children but sometimes people need to learn when it is time to wrap things up.

2.0 out of 5 stars Get. To. The. Point. Already.

The first 80% of the book is Love Triangle angst. No plot is advanced. No new characters are introduced. Nothing. At. All. Happens. That couldn’t have been wrapped up in the first five chapters.

Headstrong protagonist is now stupid and reckless. “We must make a split-second decision OR ALL WILL BE LOST!!!” is getting shouted every other chapter. Come on already.

Kill off the bad guys already. Start a new drama, feeding off the holes left behind by doing so. I’m no longer even looking forward to the next books, unless something about the writing style actually changes.

I’m fine with the love triangle. I love the drama it creates. But please dedicate less time to this, and more time fleshing out the supporting characters. I want to know more of their back stories. Why are they headstrong, or shy, or guarded, or emotionally numb? Why are they willing to sacrifice or put their lives on the line anyway?

And finally, the plot is focused so tightly on “the super-important event that will go down in exactly 10 days” that we get almost a minute-by-minute account of everything the protagonist experiences, since there’s No Time to lose even a second of the precious time remaining. Except those times when we’re not. There’s some kind of “and the next three days of school and routine became a blur…” where we get fast-forwarded with absolutely no details of what happened in the interim. Wait, what?

Shannon, if you read this: the Mommy Dearest story needs to conclude. You’ve already established a dozen different threats that can take its place, and send them on more adventures. I’d love to see more of the dynamics of the other races, the other characters, and the protagonist’s plethora of special abilities come to fruition. Just no more Mommy Dearest, please. I’m SO tired of that MacGuffin already.

2.0 out of 5 stars All talk, no adventure, no action, nothing

For fans of Shannon Messenger’s ‘Lost Cities’ series who have anxiously awaited her newest release Stellarlune, here is my humble suggestion:

After the first couple of chapters, please feel free to begin skimming the next 300 pages. Your eyes will pick up any actual evidence of something interesting or mildly exciting in the slow, dragging, oft-repeated filler rhetoric that sends the book’s potential into mind-numbing oblivion.

Bravely slog your way, page after page, through Messenger’s latest attempt in the hopes of something actually happening. However, as the author continues to portray the frustration of the characters regarding nothing happening, readers can expect to feel the same frustration that nothing, literally nothing, is happening. Indeed, readers might find a brief respite by doing something more interesting such as folding laundry or watching paint dry.

As we approach the 500th page and the end of the book, the author picks up the pace in an attempt to reward her readers with an exciting finish. However, it’s not enough to make up for hundreds of pages of sluggish boredom resulting in a colossal waste of time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Book! - Or is it though?

I love this series. I really do; don't get me wrong. But this book has to be my least favorite. It's less like all of the other books, that have that action-talk-speculation-action-fall-rise-up story arc. This book seems more like talk-speculation-talk-action-talk-speculation-talk-speculation-action story arc.

I get that Shannon is dealing with new "challenges," let's say, at home, but I would have waited longer for this book to come out if it had more information. It had too much talking, and people sitting arguing in a room, and I get that that is a common theme you find in these books, because they follow logistics a lot. But this time, it was too much. I needed more action. The end was also like a BAM! oh you blinked? Sorry, you missed it. I am dissapointed. This seriously wasn't what I expected. And that ending? WORST. CLIFFHANGER. EVER, SHANNON. I'm sorry, but this one took it a step too far. I get that she loves these cliffhangers. but usually the give some closure, and aren't in the, like, ONLY ACTION SCENE IN THE ENTIRE BOOK.

Overall, it was okay, so to say. It's like those moments in an author's life that are like: 'Great effort! Try again next time.' Sorry, Shannon. I also waited just under 2 years for this book. Visibly dissappointed. Hope to see a better follow-up in the coming year. I am very, very sad. I didn't even realize it was 2 years I was so excited...

2.0 out of 5 stars Pages of brand new book are printed out of order.

I purchased this book new for my daughter for Christmas. We didn’t realize until she started reading it this month (February) that once you get to the high 200s, the pages are printed out of order. Unfortunately, we have missed our return window. I have never had this problem before with a brand new book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Absolute train wreck

Shannon messenger has unfortunately lost all her charm. the whole plot was just too confusing and i really have come to not liking sophie, so it’s kind of hard to root for her. burying emotions and important relationship processes into a” mental box “ is extremely unhealthy and unproductive. and her parents are incredibly unconcerned with their daughters well-being, you don’t actually see them worrying, rather just bringing food and not even requesting answers to their questions.

2.0 out of 5 stars NO KEEFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 11, 2022

I love this series, but honestly sometimes the writing and story-line makes me cringe. The main reason I read it is because of Keefe. I haven't met one person who doesn't want a Keefe in there life! Most of the other characters annoy me, Sophie is too stubborn, and always makes everything into a big deal. But the worst of all of them is Fitz, he's sooooooooooooooo annoying. Like give Sophie a break, its not her fault she's unmatchable. I actually want to give Shannon a pat on the back for only giving Fitz a little part in Stellalune. I'm actually only angry because I'm up to page 360 now and there's still no Keefe. I feel like I got scammed.

But I do not like cliffhangers. I am finishing this series with the last book in (supposedly) January. Then done.
I think if you have a good story people will read the next one no matter what, you do not need cliffhangers. I have read to many series that take forever to put next book out. But this was a GREAT series. Except for the leaving you hanging at the end. I hate not leaving a 4-5 star review that it probably deserved.

I’m certain my Keeper of the Lost Cities fan will love this. However, when she opened it Christmas morning, the vast majority of the book fell out of the cover. She’s reading it anyway, because it’s hard to stop her, but it’s disappointing that the book feel apart the first time she opened it.

This book was great, until in the 200's pages were missing and out of order - this continued until the mid 300's.
