A story made oh so unique by the setting and situation. I found this book to be so interesting while also being a rollercoaster of twists and turns. The polygamist sect is not something I knew a lot about other than news stories. This book immersed you in the lifestyle from an outsiders perspective but also shedding light on the tight knit bonds of those on the inside and the lengths they will go to to protect their own. This was heart wrenching at times and terrifying at others. So well written with wonderful character development. I highly recommend this one.

Only Girl Alive is the first book in what I think is a new genre for this author and not one I know her to write. I found this book fascinating where it details the procedural side of the investigation as it’s definitely not how things work when we see it on TV!

Eve is called in to investigate a homicide involving four people within the polygamist community. However, interference and other issues keep cropping up but Eve and her team are determined to find the answers and get justice for the family.

I’d like to see where this series goes, so will definitely try the next book - even though it took me a while to get into and get to know the characters.

I was intrigued by the idea of a police procedural whodunnit set in a fundamentalist polygamist Mormon community, because it implied another and very different level of difficulty and politics that could and/or would inform investigations.

It is engaging but occasionally repetitive. The leading character’s surname is rarely spelt the same way twice in a row, which suggests a lack of editorial oversight.

Additionally, the trailer blurb does not in any way reflect the story within. This might also be reflective of poor editorial oversight.

I would recommend as a thoughtful contribution to the police procedural genre, and am likely to read any further titles in this series. I would also recommend that the author and her editorial team settle on a spelling for Bennet (or is it Bennett?) and stick to it throughout.

This was a hard book to read. I was raised a Christian in the Catholic church. So to me polygamy is a a bad thing. I was also raised to believe a woman could be/do anything she wanted. I couldn't imagine being told how to live, who to marry. At first, I had to put the book down and walk away. Then when I picked it up again, I was compelled to keep reading. Ms Robert's writing was spot on. Well researched and executed.
Very different from her earlier writing. What I mean by that is the romance. This is strictly a crime story.
So if your looking for a bit of romance,forget it.
As for the writing, excellent.

I should have finished this book within 2 days. I couldn't. I kept putting it down.
I found Eve to be admirable and knew this was to be the beginning of a series. But the characters were just lacking and the story depressing,not gripping.
