1.0 out of 5 starsA rudimentary LITRPG, why?

Another world ending videogame story. Why is this a thing?
And if it is a thing, why is it so poorly done?
The premise is sketchy enough. Some unknown cosmic power decides to bring about the apocalypse by bringing monsters and weird floating notifications for . . . Reasons.
Fine.
Everyone gets statistics that alter their minds and bodies and levels which grant them power.
Fine.
But why is it some random, aging survivor in the middle of nowhere is the one who figures out how to become powerful? Wouldn't it make more sense for genuinely strong people like soldiers or smart like doctors or scientists to also figure this out?
Also, why make these stats and experience points and notifications, then pretty much ignore them? Why have hit points when you can just oneshot a "boss" more than twice your level with a well-aimed blow?
And don't even talk about class balance. Sure, the main character needs to be overpowered because he's the main character of course (sarcasm). But really?
"My class lets me cook meals for a slight buff."
"Well mine lets me heal minor wounds in cooldown."
"Oh, I'm the main character so mine let's me instantly scan an entire building, instantly take ownership, claim all resources down to the molecular level no matter how big or small, instantly remake it into anything I want even if I have no knowledge of how it works, and take no resources, effort or cooldowns. Oh and I can pick any stats I want and learn any skills I want too. Oh and I can learn magic."
"Oh. That's cool I guess. Would you like a nice tasting steak?"
