This past week I graduated from the Early Childhood Education & Care Diploma program through Vancouver Island University. You would think after two years of full time University that I would want a break from reading. Nope! I am diving deep into this book- I’m highlighting words, sentences and quotes and I am only in the Introduction of her book. As a very recent University graduate, and in my opinion, this book should be a required reading/text book in any course for Educators. As Lisa says, “we need to focus on our well-being from a place of mindfulness and self-compassion” and “in mindfulness and meditation, an anchor is something we use to bring us back to the present moment. The mind needs an anchor.”
Now take a big deep breath, exhale and say that again, “the mind needs an anchor”.

My book was a misprint that had 2 other books inside of it.
So now i also get to learn about amino acids and freshwater pufferfish.
Reading Lisa's book allowed me space to really reflect and I felt comforted by the fact that I was not alone with my feelings and exhaustion. I'm so grateful to have this book; I'm grateful for Lisa's willingness to be vulnerable with her own stories in an effort to bring light the to the ever-growing rate of teacher burnout. I think every educator and future educator should have this in their nightstand; our mental health requires it! Thank you Lisa.

Lisa writes in a way that makes you feel that you sitting and having a cup of tea with a good friend. It was a pleasure to read this book and I know I will enjoy reading it again.
If you work in schools this book can help you be your own reliable source of support. I recommend reading it with a friend or group of colleagues. Together this journey can be even more powerful.
If you have kids going to school, buy this for their teachers, principals and assistants. Our kids flourish when their school staff flourish.
She teaches us the three important components of self-compassion practice and offers numerous actionable and accessible strategies that can help!
Pick up a book for yourself, but also, go ahead and order a few copies for your staff and start a book club. This book is meant to be shared and discussed...it’s a book that will transform you!

Teaching has never been more difficult and exhausting than it is right now, and it has also never been more important. There has been a lot of talk about teacher self-care, but when we're dealing with the extremes that we are all dealing with right now, the best tool we can employ is SELF-COMPASSION.
As someone who teaches mindfulness to others, I found my meditation practice to be supportive this past year, but truly, it was self-compassion is ultimately what got me through the pandemic.
Lisa's explanations and practices are clear, transformative, and IMMEDIATELY ACTIONABLE.
Through her insights and instruction, you will find yourself back in the driver's seat of your mind and better-equipped to be resilient in the face of daily challenges.
Teachers, get this book for yourselves. School and district leaders, get this book for your faculty and staff.
Spread the word - this one is a game-changer.
